Each year, House Beautiful magazine chooses a Kitchen of the Year to showcase in their September edition. Meant to celebrate cutting-edge design, technology and innovation, the chosen kitchen also exemplifies the pinnacle of aesthetic appeal.

The 2018 choice is the home of renowned interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard and marks the magazine’s first Hollywood edition.

The Designer

Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s designs feature what House Beautiful calls “eclectic, yet sophisticated interiors.” It is this distinctive spirit coupled with his commitment to impeccable high quality that has earned him a solid reputation extending from his L.A. home across the globe. According to HFN, Bullard reached out to House Beautiful with a request to collaborate on his new design, and the magazine eagerly accepted the opportunity to include a personal and boldly innovative project into their 2018 Kitchen of the Year.

The Designer

Bullard’s 1920s Spanish-inspired home at 1712 North Crescent Boulevard was once the hangout of some of Hollywood’s brightest. It was previously owned by both Dennis Hopper and Tina Turner, and it is predicted that the name of Martyn Lawrence Bullard will draw big celebrities from this millennium’s A-list as well.

Bullard’s design has left the structure’s Spanish architectural influences intact while infusing Moroccan overtones by way of hand-carved screen doors and beaten brass accents. Colorfully patterned Zellige tiles offer vibrancy alongside classically proportioned cabinetry from Christopher Peacock, which he personalized to fit Bullard’s Mediterranean atmosphere. The kitchen also features the latest Thermador range and kitchen appliances and boasts the most innovative options in cooking, refrigeration and dishwashing technologies.

Martyn Lawrence Bullard Inspirations

For the 11th consecutive year, House Beautiful has turned to Caesarstone for inspiration in their Kitchen of the Year project. Bullard’s unique use of Caesarstone Pure White and Jet Black to create a brass-banded dining room table is ingenious. In addition, the home’s lounge/bar features White Attica with brass banding, an elegant complement to the dining table.

Bullard’s choice to adorn the basic black and white look with jewel tones is in line with one of 2018’s hottest design trends. Bling is big with rich colors like sapphire blue, turquoise and Bullard’s forest green and burgundy for both indoor and outdoor living. Bullard and Caesarstone have a strong relationship of mutual affection, and the designer admits, “It [Caesarstone] has become one of the main tools in my business.” He added, “I love the quality, I love the look, and I love the service they give you.”

Caesarstone is proud to have been connected to this world-renowned designer in collaboration on several prior projects including the involvement in the redesign of his own home.
