Marina Green Show Home

NEW YORK, May 22, 2007 - Home magazine has partnered with Remodeling magazine to present Settling in the City: Marina Green Showhouse from May 30th - June 1st in San Francisco, CA benefiting the Northern California Cancer Center (NCCC).

Inspired by Mayor Gavin Newsom's Livable City Initiative, a program that encourages local residents and businesses to make greening improvements to their homes and neighborhoods, the Marina Green Showhouse embodies San Francisco's reputation as a beacon of successful environmentalism in action.

The three-story, 5,000 square foot Spanish Mediterranean home located in San Francisco's popular Marina District was transformed into an eco-conscious architectural jewel by builder and developer Regina Callan, architect Mark English, and interior designer, and host of HGTV's Homes Across America, Joe Ruggiero. Featuring Earth-friendly building technologies such as solar panels, recycled materials, double pane windows, thermally efficient insulation, low-VOC paints and energy conserving appliances, the finished home is a shining example of how to build responsibly, significantly reducing a home's environmental footprint, while addressing the needs of today's family.

¡°Marina Green is a celebration of transitional design and real-world sustainable building practices." said Jack Grant, VP/publisher, Home magazine. ¡°We look forward to inviting our guests and the San Francisco community to experience the latest products and green technologies used for this project."

Rick Strachan, Remodeling Group Publisher, adds that ¡°Settling in the City: Marina Green provides solutions that contractors and consumers are looking for in areas of green building and sustainability. We are excited to be apart of this leading edge project."

Eco-conscious highlights include; beautiful and energy-efficient, high performance windows from Jeld-Wen; Kohler's Wellspring touchless faucet saves water by delivering hands-free water at a preset temperature; Spider, a custom insulation system from Johns Manville, provides superior insulation values, meeting California's tough Title 24 energy standards and several green building guidelines; two Lenox heating and air purification systems in a zoned arrangement ensures heating energy is used wisely; and 34 solar-electric panels by Borrego Solar positioned on the roof, deliver as close to possible a near net-zero electricity use for the house.

Coinciding with the Pacific Coast Builders Conference, many of the Marina Green sponsors will also be showcased at this premiere tradeshow and conference, which draws over 33,000 industry insiders. Sponsors include: Ann Sacks, Armstrong, CaesarStone Quartz Surfaces, DCS by Fisher & Paykel, Glidden, Hunter Douglas, Jeld-Wen Windows & Doors, Johns Manville, Kohler, KraftMaid Cabinetry, Lennox, The Modern Fan Co, Norwalk Furniture, Purcell Murray, Sunbrella, Trex, Velux Skylights, Woodard, Zephyr Ventilation.
