Lean Arch, Inc.

James is the Principal Architect and Founder of the internationally recognized and award-winning Architectural Design/Build firm LEAN ARCH, Inc. in Los Angeles, California. Specializing in contemporary residential and commercial projects, James lectures extensively on sustainability and eco-conscious design strategies. He is also the Creative Director and founding partner of The Green Hive, LLC based in Hermosa Beach, California. Currently, James is working on his firm's first major publication of work titled LEAN Arch: Some Assembly Required, which discusses the firm’s creative approach to the design/build philosophy.

Biography

James R. Meyer, AIA founded the Architectural Design/Build practice of LEAN ARCH, Inc. in the summer of 2000. As Principal he has overseen the design and execution of both residential and commercial projects throughout the Los Angeles area. Notable completed works to date include the Wild Oak Residence in Los Feliz (2008), featured in Brava Casa (Italy, November 2009) and photographed by the late Julius Shulman (1910-2009) for inclusion in his latest exhibition of work on view at the Craig Krull Gallery in Los Angeles and scheduled to tour Europe beginning Spring 2010; KDC-02 in Manhattan Beach (2008), winner of the 2009 Southern California Environmental Excellence Development Award (SEED Award) presented by the South Bay Business Environmental Coalition (SBBEC); KDC-01 in Manhattan Beach (2007), winner of the 2008 Southern California Environmental Excellence Development Award (SEED Award), and featured in Casas Ventana, by Alejandro Bahamon and Ana Maria Alvarez (Spain, 2009), Green Is Beautiful: The Eco- Friendly House by Claudio Santini and Dafna Zilafro (2009), Designer Magazine (UK, 2009), Bagno Accessori (Italy, 2009), as well as, several local and national publications including Luxury Life & Style, Beach Magazine, and Ty Pennington’s HOME magazine; North Valley Drive Residence in Manhattan Beach (2006), featured in Dream Homes: Los Angeles from Panache Publications (2008); the Park Oak Residence in Los Feliz (2005) recipient of the 2005 Meliora Award for Best Renovation presented by the Los Feliz Improvement Association; the Douville Residence in Manhattan Beach (2001) and the Green Oak Residence in Los Angeles (2003) featured in the March 2005 issue of LA Architect magazine. The firm was named by LA Architect magazine as one of the ‘Top Ten Firms to Watch’ in November 2007, and was featured in Architectural Record (February 2008).
